We were lucky enough to have the fabulous author of Remake, Ilima Todd join our group for book club! Dressed in our white shirts and gray sweats (like the Batchers in the book), we spent much of the time getting to know Ilima better, how her book came to be, and having her give us the super secret scoop on what's currently happening with Remake (which we aren't allowed to share just yet) - I know, we are really mean!
Since we love to ask authors about what some of the favorite books are, we couldn't let Ilima off the hook. She mentioned some of recent book recommendations are These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, Forbidden by Kimberly Griffiths Little, Burning Glass by Kathryn Purdie (not out until Winter 2016), and anything by Cassie May (How to Date a Nerd, How to Seduce a Band Geek).
Now back to Remake (the whole reason we asked Ilima to come!) . . .
After the amazing food, all themed after the book and Ilima's Hawaiian heritage, we quizzed members on their reading. We even had Ilima give us a few of her own questions (which we will give you in our next post!) to try to stump us on her book.

Nine is the ninth female born in her batch of ten females and ten males. By design, her life in Freedom Province is without complications or consequences. However, such freedom comes with a price. the Prime Maker is determined to keep that price a secret from the new batches of citizens that are born, nurtured, and raised androgynously.
But Nine isn't like every other batcher. She harbors indecision and worries about her upcoming Remake Day - her seventeenth birthday, the age when batchers fly to the Remake facility and have the freedom to choose who and what they'll be.
When Nine discovers the truth about life outside of Freedom Province, including the secret plan of the Prime Maker, she is pulled between two worlds and two lives. Her decisions will test her courage, her heart, and her beliefs. Who can she trust? Who does she love? And most importantly, who will she decide to be?

About the author: Ilima Todd was born and raised on the north shore of Oahu
and currently resides in the Rocky Mountains. She never wanted to be a writer
even though she loves books and reading. She earned a degree in physics
instead. But the characters in her head refused to be ignored, and now she
spends her time writing science fiction for teens. When she is not writing,
Ilima loves to spend time with her husband and four children.

This book raised so many questions in our minds and made the perfect book for discussion. Ilima created these perfect discussion questions which you can find on the Remake website. We talked a lot about the idea of family and gender and how important these topics are. Since these topics can be sensitive for some people, several Delicious Reads members asked Ilima how she has felt the response has been for her book. Though their has been some negative response, Ilima feels that most has been positive. She has even had a transgender individual email her and commend her for her book and the questions it asks. Check out this post from Ilima where she divulges how she came to include these topics in her book.
During the night, we had Summer take these fun pictures to copy the book cover of Remake. I totally think Ilima looks gorgeous here (see more of our Remake book cover copies in our next post).

All of us LOVED the two love interests of Nine in the book - Kai and Theron. We spent several minutes discussing who we would choose. Though not everyone agreed (because there were good things about both guys), many of us were leaning toward Theron, even though at the end of the book (SPOILER ALERT), she does end up with Kai. Ilima admitted to us that her favorite scenes to write are the kissing scenes. Many of us admitted that they are our favorite to read :).
Of course, we had to ask Ilima if she could choose, what actress would play her main character, Nine, in a movie. This is who Ilima pictured as Nine:
