“Men tell stories. Women get on with it. For us it was a shadow war. There were no parades for us when it was over, no medals or mentions in history books. We did what we had to during the war, and when it was over, we picked up the pieces and started our lives over.”
― Kristin Hannah, The Nightingale
One thing we loved about this WWII book is that it told the story of two remarkable women who were heroes in the war and we so rarely hear those stories. It was refreshing to see a different story come to life of women who fought and struggled for years during an occupied France and who somehow still came out of it with love in their hearts and hope in humanity.
This book takes place in France but it also takes place during WWII when food was scarce. So instead of eating stale bread, weak soups and no desserts we choose to honor Vianne and Isabelle's lives with a celebratory feast.
{Drinks}

Alix had these mix matched glasses with gold stems. They were perfect for the night considering the Nazi came into homes and took what they wanted so many people were left with mix matched things.

{Desserts}
There were so many to choose from and all of them were so good. From mini chocolate cupcakes to Lemon tarts to Apple Crisp to Mini Cheesecakes.
In the book Vianne takes her son to get Macarons while they are in Paris.
So this was the perfect dessert.
