Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Book Club Ideas

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is my absolute favorite book in the Harry Potter series and I was thrilled when I received the opportunity to act as moderator. There are so many reasons that I love this particular book. Up until this point we have not learned much about Voldermort's past. Through the pensive and Dumbledore's memories we gain great insight into why and how Voldermort became the way he is. We are also introduced to a new character that is one of my favorites, Horace Slughorn. There are exciting spells and potions that are introduced (sectumsempra, felix felicies etc.), and of course the epic ending of the book where the beloved headmaster Dumbledore is killed by Severus Snape.

{Discussion}
A majority of the discussion questions that I used for this book were from Sparknotes

Before beginning the discussion, I had all of the book club members take their O.W.L. on HP 6. The O.W.L. consisted of questions that I made up while reading the book in preparation for our discussion (coming soon). The person to answer the most questions correctly received a gift card to a local soda shop where you can create your own beverages (this reminded me of potion making!)

{Decorations}
I did not create a specific decor item to coincide with book 6 but I did create a key element of the Harry Potter series... the floating candles in the great hall! Here is the link to a fabulous tutorial on how to make these realistic looking floating candles.

I thought that a potions table would also be perfect for this book and look at all the amazing things the book club members had to bring for it.

Kelly's Gift to everyone after we discussed book 6 was this cute little glass vial of
Felix Felicis, also called "Liquid Luck" It was the perfect touch to end of the book.

  3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a sixth installment in the Harry Potter series, delving deeper into the complexities of the wizarding world and the looming shadow of Lord Voldemort. The novel explores themes of loss, betrayal, and the duality of human nature, with characters given greater depth and nuance. The mystery surrounding the enigmatic Half-Blood Prince, the owner of a heavily annotated Potions textbook, adds an intriguing layer to the plot. Rowling masterfully weaves together multiple storylines, blending humor, suspense, and emotional resonance. The novel explores the darker aspects of the wizarding world, highlighting the flaws and imperfections of its inhabitants. Despite the darkness, Harry finds solace in his friendships and the power of love. motorcycle accident attorney
