"Daring Greatly" Book Club Ideas

"Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage."
Brené Brown

{The FOOD}
Erika wanted all of us to bring an item of food that was something we loved. It could be anything. And there was no shame involved. If we loved a fountain drink of Dr. Pepper from the gas station then we were suppose to bring it. No food or drink item was a wrong choice. This will make your menu easy for book club.
Be YOU and bring what you love.

A little bit of chocolate never hurt anyone!

Shalease brought this yummy cream cheese and jalapeño jelly dip!
(One of my favorites too)

Erika made this pasta with shrimp that was to die for.

Alix made some delicious baked brussel sprouts

Kettle Corn was Kim's favorite

Julie brought this bread that was so soft in the middle. YUM!

Kaylynn thank you very much for bringing these
SWIG Sugar Cookies

Kelly, you were right these were so delicious!

I hate to bake and I love grabbing a Dunford Donut at the gas station every once in a while so I brought a box of these beauties.

Let's eat! Our favorite part of the night. Eating and chatting.

{Decorations}
When you have a non fiction book it might be hard to decorate for it. But I loved what Erika did. She took many different quotes from the book and from the internet. Then she took blank canvases and permanent markers to creatively write them down to display all around. We loved it.

We were greeted with this on her front door.

{Discussion}

We started off the discussion by watching a part of Brené Brown's TED Talk from 2010 which catapulted her career. It has over 27 million views and we HIGHLY suggest watching it.

After watching Brene's Ted Talk we started with a great activity to get us ready to discuss.

 {Activity}
Erika had us do two things. First during the discussion she had us write down what we believe makes us feel vulnerable. We had about 10 minutes to write down one or a dozen things that we felt kept us from engaging fully and daring greatly in our lives.

Let's just say that activity lead us to a three hour book club therapy session! But in all seriousness, having each of us open up about what makes us the most uncomfortable, what makes us feel unloved, unsure and unwanted was the most amazing meeting we've ever had.

"Those who feel lovable, who love, and who experience belonging simply believe they are worthy of love and belonging. I often say that Wholeheartedness is like the North Star: We never really arrive, but we certainly know if we're headed in the right direction."
Brené Brown

Kelly was the best at this activity and won this awesome prize. I even had her write mine down because I couldn't think of any and the ones she wrote were spot on for me. She knows me better than I know myself.

 The last activity Erika had us do before we ended with a dance party was she had us write down any quote we wanted that we felt represented us now or where we wanted to go.

{Dance Party}
“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”
- by William W Purkey
The perfect way to end a night full of emotions and tender hearts is obviously a dance party!

A HUGE THANK YOU to ERIKA for moderating and hosting book club. And thank you to Jenni for helping moderate. It's always good to have a psychologist in the group for this book. Haha.

Check out our Book Review if you missed it.
